Lee, S.

S. Lee is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. She is the coordinator for community development for the Southeast Asia Methodist Mission.

After earning a Master of Social Work degree, Lee worked as a mental health clinician at Asian Pacific Community Counseling/Transcultural Wellness Center in Sacramento, California (2009-24). A layperson, Lee is married to fellow missionary the Rev. D. Kim. She is a member of First United Methodist Church, Yuba City, California.

Mission initiatives are a primary emphasis of Global Ministries’ strategic plan. The United Methodist Mission in Southeast Asia has experienced significant growth since its start in 2005. Currently, the country has 55 local churches and 25 preaching points/new faith communities, and this trend of steady growth is expected to continue. As the work in Southeast Asia expands, a person is needed to focus on community development.

Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV, is Lee’s guiding Scripture: “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”

“In the words of the apostle Paul,” she said, “I am truly a debtor to love. Despite my imperfections, I desire to devote my life to sharing the love of God I have received with nations in need. I am determined to leave my current comfort zone, guided by the word of the Lord: ‘Anyone who looks back after taking up the plow is not fit for the kingdom of God’ (Luke 9:62).

“I aim to step out from my current life and go with the Lord to the place where he calls me,” Lee added.
