This missionary has completed service. The Advance number will remain active until January 2025.
Rose Kaisi is an International Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service.
The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.
Rose is a member of Greendale United Methodist Church in Harare, Zimbabwe. The church is related to the Zimbabwe West Annual Conference. She served as United Methodist Youth Fellowship publicity secretary, Greendale Circuit communications chairperson, and board member and journalist for the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area Ebenezer radio project.
A graduate of Monash South Africa in Johannesburg, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
She is a freelance sports journalist with Mirazvo Multimedia Productions. “I have a sports blog,” Rose said. “I was supposed to start a sports show, but due to COVID-19 protocols, I could not meet with the sportspersons.” She is eager to encourage youth to try to play any sport, regardless of their gender.
Faith in God plays a huge role in Rose’s life.
“Spiritual growth,” she said, “is the inner realization of who you truly are in God. Reading the Bible and praying daily uplifts my spirit. Singing also keeps me going in tough situations. I have faced challenges that have shaped my spiritual growth.”
She remembered a tough situation she encountered as a college student. “I had a financial problem back home,” Rose said. “It was the beginning of a new semester. My tuition was paid, but the money was not enough to pay for my rentals. We asked for help from family friends and relatives, but to no avail.
“I realized if you leave everything in God’s hands and not lean on your own understanding, you will not stress about anything. I prayed about the situation, and the following day I was on a bus to school, despite being nervous of the whole situation.” She went to her friend’s place to retrieve belongings she had stored there.
“My friend asked me where I was going to stay, and I explained my situation,” Rose said. “Immediately, she offered me to stay with her until I was financially stable. I knew God is always listening, and my prayer was answered. I stayed there for the rest of the semester for free as she insisted.”
Rose continued, “I have faced so many challenges in life, and God was there always. When you grow spiritually, you see things differently. I feel called to mission work because of the experience I went through. Although I did not end up being homeless, I now have an understanding of what homeless people go through. It helps me know how to come up with a solution to a problem because I have been there.”
