Project Information

Educating at-risk youth in Honduras.

Describe the need affecting community

Prior to 2014, there was no secondary education in Ciudad Espana, Honduras. Students had to either travel 45 minutes by bus to Tegucigalpa (oftentimes a dangerous trip) or if they couldn’t afford it, had no educational opportunities past the 7th grade. This led to teens joining gangs or working at a manual labor position due to no secondary education.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

Scholarships will fund school for those that don’t have funds to do so.

Describe the primary goal of the project

To improve the economic condition in Ciudad Espana. To keep children and youth out of gangs. To stem the tide of Hondurans fleeing the country due to lack of opportunity or violence.

Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project
