Global Ministries’ Mission and Vision
The mission of the General Board of Global Ministries is to equip and transform people and places for God’s mission around the world. Our four mission goals are:
- Make disciples of Jesus Christ;
- Strengthen, develop, and renew Christian congregations and communities;
- Alleviate human suffering;
- Seek justice, freedom, and peace.
As the mission and humanitarian assistance agency of The United Methodist Church, Global Ministries leads The United Methodist Church in equipping, strengthening and transforming people and communities for God’s mission around the world. In its work of making disciples of Jesus Christ, Global Ministries envisions and facilitates mission so that churches and faith communities grow and flourish; justice, freedom, peace, health and well-being prevail across racial, cultural, national and political boundaries; and people of all faiths live in dignity and security, even when they face humanitarian disasters and their aftermath.
Through mission, The United Methodist Church realizes its greatest unity, and through mission and being in mission together, society achieves its greatest potential.
The result of a range of strategic conversations by staff and directors, the strategic plan was officially approved in October, 2022. It enumerates operational touchstones and identifies 17 priority programs for the agency, reflecting one or more of four mission priorities:
- missionaries
- evangelism and church revitalization,
- global health, and
- humanitarian relief and recovery
Thanking the Global Ministries and UMCOR boards for their engagement in the process, General Secretary Roland Fernandes said, “My prayer is that this long transitional moment can be truly transformative for our church, and in particular, for our agency, so that we may be true channels for God’s mission.”
