Christabel Munashe Mabika is an international Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service.

The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.

She earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree at Bindura University of Science Education in Zimbabwe. Her first post-college job was working with children and families through the Child Protection Society in Harare. “I am a dedicated and self-motivated individual,” she said, “who has managed to establish and maintain an excellent communication system with clients and colleagues alike.”

Involved in youth ministries, she is a member of Murewa Center Circuit United Methodist Church, related to the Zimbabwe West Annual Conference.

“Growing up in the church,” Christabel recalled, “I was involved in church activities from doing  community service to joining the choir. I believed being involved in the things of the Lord meant I had to have a personal relationship with God, which means having faith in him and being led by the Holy Spirit.

“I started concentrating on my spiritual growth, having a personal relationship with God through reading the word of God,” she continued. “It has helped me a lot in knowing the importance of putting God first in everything I do.”

Christabel believes that actions reflect spiritual growth.

“Community is vital for spiritual growth,” she said. “Engaging with people and creating personal  relationships by cultivating into already-built relationships leads to spiritual development.”

She is certain that God is calling her to mission.

“I want to spread the good news, which I know would change lives,” Christabel said. “I have the knowledge and skills to change lives and improve the social well-being and welfare of individuals in communities. Every believer has a gift they can use to further the kingdom of God by serving others.

“The goal is to serve and change lives. It will impact the health of the church. We should be able to conduct charitable work and help others.”
