Project Information

Providing family based healthcare and education, including tuberculosis control and vaccines, to rural communities throughout Haiti.

Describe the need affecting community

When most people think of Haiti, they think of sprawling urban slums overcrowded with people. It’s easy to forget that 8 out of 10 Haitians actually live in the remote countryside of rural Haiti with little to no access to healthcare. More than 160,000 individuals live in secluded villages throughout northern Haiti, without accessible healthcare closer than hours or even days worth of walking. Women often give birth alone instead of in a hospital and due to lack of education, give birth in unsanitary conditions. There is a lack of health education, health services, and hope.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

The Integrated Community Health project will continue to provide mobile clinic services throughout northern Haiti and educate the communities. The project aims to provide tuberculosis control, vaccines, health education, and community-based healthcare for the families. By empowering communities to take charge of their own health, ICC is bringing powerful, effective, and sustainable change to rural Haiti.

Describe the primary goal of the project

To provide tuberculosis control, vaccines, health education, and community-based healthcare for families in rural communities.

Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project

We would like to see a more educated and healthy community where community members are engaged and given hope for the future.
