Education and Scholarships
Project Information
Transforming the church and the world by providing educational opportunities and supporting educational initiatives at United Methodist-related schools, colleges, seminaries and universities worldwide.
Describe the need affecting community
Beginning in 1748, when Methodism’s founder, John Wesley, established the Kingswood School, education has been a core commitment of Methodists. Education is a powerful tool for change and is key to forming just societies, reducing poverty, promoting health, contributing to peace and fostering economically stable communities. However, access to education continues to be sporadic in many countries around the world. Education of children, youth and adults in vulnerable communities continues to be a priority of The United Methodist Church. The general boards of Global Ministries and Higher Education and Ministry partner with communities to provide educational opportunities – including scholarships and leadership development – and support educational initiatives that transform students into faithful and creative leaders who strengthen their communities.
