Developing leaders for discern God’s future vision for the church in South Sudan.

Describe the need affecting community

The church, nation and local communities need transformational, sacrificial, servant, Christian leaders to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, to discern God’s vision for the future, to articulate God’s desired vision, to focus on God’s vision and to lead the people into God’s vision. Have a clear set of values aligned with the values of the church and act as a role models for the church and community. The institution of the United Methodist Church in South Sudan has need of servant leaders for it to have integrity. An informed institution is necessary to teach the values inherent in its tradition.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

It will create education opportunities for identified transformational leaders ready to learn and grow into servant leaders of tomorrow. It will prepare, educate, train, and support these servant leaders to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. It will build their capacity to make a change through their moral example of servant leadership for the benefit of the church and community.

Describe the primary goal of the project

To raise up Christian servant leaders, lay and clergy, who will continue to discern God’s vision for South Sudan and lead the church and community into that vision. They would incarnate the Kingdom values of grace, love, peace and justice and work to change the culture of corruption and impunity. Though their new knowledge and skills the church would become an informed institution with the capacity to teach Kingdom values. Their new knowledge and skills would enable to develop clarity of purpose and flexible strategy to meet the challenges and opportunities of each and every day.

Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project

Indigenous servant leadership focused on God’s vision for the church and community and not focused on using the church for their own use. An educated leadership who understands the Christian faith and practice it in ministry. Institutional growth from infancy to adulthood. An informed church institution with integrity. A church with sound management well defined church relationships.
