Global Mission Fellows
Project Information
Supporting young adult missionaries, i.e. Global Mission Fellows, of the UMC around the world.
Describe the need affecting community
Today, there are over 1000 alumni of these programs around the world serving in a broad spectrum of ministries, still passionate about social justice, still integrating the lessons they learned through their term of service into their daily vocations. We celebrate over 65 years of young adults in mission service and look forward to sending hundreds more around the globe on behalf of the United Methodist Church.
How will this Advance project help to address the need?
The Generation Transformation: Global Mission Fellows (GMF) program combines strengths of the US-2 and Mission Intern programs that began in 1951 and 1977, respectively. The GMF program engages young adults passionate about social justice to serve either in one’s own country or internationally; literally ‘from everywhere, to everywhere’. The program’s core values of Engage with Local Communities; Connect the Church in Mission and Grow in Personal and Social Holiness inform both the mission work and personal life of these young missionaries. Describe the primary goal of the project
Goal 1. ENGAGE with local communities We will know Fellows are engaging successfully with local communities when the following objectives (i.e. measures of success) are evident in the life and work of the Fellows within the communities they serve. Goal 2. CONNECT the church in mission We will know Fellows are connecting the church in mission when the following objectives (i.e. measures of success) are evident in the life and work of the Fellows and the congregations with which they connect. Goal 3. GROW in personal and social holiness We will know Fellows have grown in personal and social holiness when the following objectives (i.e. measures of success) are evident in the life and work of the Fellows, not only during their term of service with GMF, but in their future life and ministry.
