ATLANTA — As followers of Jesus Christ, it is part of our individual and collective call to see the needs of the vulnerable and respond with acts of compassion.
As the year-end giving season begins, Global Ministries and Higher Education and Ministry invite United Methodists to take part in This Moment Matters, a faith-based response to global instability, humanitarian crises, and shifting political landscapes affecting the wellbeing of families and communities throughout the world. So far, granting through This Moment Matters has crossed $40 million dollars.
“While this funding has made a significant impact, it does not come close to meeting the extraordinary scale of need around the world,” said Roland Fernandes, general secretary of Global Ministries, Higher Education and Ministry, and UMCOR. “Still, as United Methodists, we are called to do what we can—offering our gifts faithfully and joining together to bring hope, healing, and tangible help to our neighbors.”
Rooted in the Christian call to welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, and care for the sick, This Moment Matters provides a channel for United Methodists to support agricultural initiatives that strengthen food security and sustainable livelihoods; educational opportunities that equip future leaders; health programs that improve access to life-saving care; ministries that support migrants and displaced people; and peacebuilding efforts that foster understanding and reconciliation.
United Methodist annual conferences, local churches, pastors, leaders, and communicators are encouraged to help bring the campaign to their communities. A collection of ready-to-use resources is available to make participation easy, including a planning guide with a suggested schedule, prewritten letters and social media posts, promotional graphics, and short videos.
Through our shared gifts, we become a visible witness to God’s love in action.
