God calls people into service from communities all around the world. Some of us serve close to home, while others travel thousands of miles away. Though the nature of our work may vary, we’re all part of Missio Dei — God’s Mission. And we all share a desire to live out the teachings of Jesus and embody God’s love for all people.
Whether you feel called to share our work with others, donate to a cause, volunteer with your church or join a mission overseas, Global Ministries welcomes you.
United Methodist missionaries come from every walk of life, and serve terms that range from a few months to several years. You can work in mission locally, nationally or globally.
We provide local leaders with training, resources and support to cultivate new faith communities, revitalize existing ones, and foster diversity and inclusivity in UMC congregations.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a unit of Global Ministries, helps make vulnerable communities stronger by providing relief and recovery after disasters and supporting programs in migration, health, food security and environmental sustainability.
Global Ministries is working with communities worldwide to help strengthen their healthcare services and facilities, treat and prevent diseases and support vulnerable populations.

McDowell County is one of the poorest in the U.S., and the communities of Anawalt, Leckie and Gary are some of the hardest hit by the current six-year water crisis. All have Methodist churches that are part of the Welch Charge.
To ease the burden of residents who have to purchase many gallons of drinking water weekly, the Welch Charge contacted the West Virginia Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, Jim McCune, for help. McCune’s United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) connection put him in touch with Global Ministries’ Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program.
A WASH grant allowed them to obtain a 500-gallon “water buffalo.” The conference disaster response team arranged to fill the portable water buffalo from the Welch water system, the county seat of McDowell, and transport it to Gary, where residents have been supplied with refillable containers. Residents of all three towns can come to get water, and volunteers will also continue deliveries for those who need it. Meanwhile, residents, including church members, continue to advocate state and local officials for a permanent solution to their aging, compromised water infrastructure. Full Story
