The Mission Volunteer office of Global Ministries is postponing in-person training events due to concerns related to COVID-19. It will, however, offer a virtual orientation experience on September 3-4, 2020 for those interested in learning more about the Mission Volunteer program or discerning future long-term volunteer service.
Mission Volunteers are individuals or couples (ages 18 and up), who seek long-term partnerships with communities around the world. Mission Volunteer opportunities are diverse and range from working with refugees, children and youth, serving as a teacher, pastor, camp director or health care professional. The length of service ranges from two months to more than two years.
“Mission Volunteers join in God’s mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world,” says Una Jones, director of Mission Volunteers. “Even in a virtual environment, this dedicated time will prepare participants to enter into mission with an expanded cultural awareness and a deeper understanding of our United Methodist theology of mission.”
Sessions during the Mission Volunteer orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EDT and will include topics such as The Theology of Mission, Cross-Cultural Expansion, Fundraising for Volunteer Service and more. Participants are expected to prepare by completing required readings and give their full commitment to the learning process and virtual environment.
Registrations will be accepted through August 15, 2020 through this form and there is no registration cost.
Placement opportunities will be available in 2021 for all interested virtual orientation participants. For questions or more information, please email mv@umcmission.org.
