July 15 | UMCOR awarded two solidarity grants to local partners as assessment continues and recovery begins. A grant to Church World Service (CWS) will support PPE and equipment for a network of engineers as they assess earthquake-impacted buildings. And a grant to Comunidad Cristiana Metodista de Venezuela (Methodist Christian Community of Venezuela) will serve those displaced by the earthquake in Caracas with relief supplies including food, water, and hygiene items.
July 2 | UMCOR made a $50,000 contribution to the ACT Alliance appeal in support of the distribution of food, water, health supplies and psychosocial care, as well as shelter and family tracing and reunification efforts. UMCOR also awarded a $10,000 solidarity grant for partner Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) that will cover food rations, debris clearance for access, and mobile medical unit interventions.
June 25 | Thousands have died and thousands more remain injured or missing, with several of the hardest-hit areas not yet searched. Though rescue and relief efforts are underway, recovery is expected to be difficult due to Venezuela’s vulnerable infrastructure and political environment. Global Ministries and UMCOR are coordinating with partner organizations on the ground who are conducting assessments in order to provide emergency assistance.
