Join Global Ministries and U.S. annual conference partners for an overview of United Methodist mission in Vietnam and Laos.

Global Ministries’ Asia-Pacific Regional Office and the North Carolina and Texas annual conferences will host two virtual overviews of United Methodist mission in Vietnam and Laos this month. All are welcome to join in learning more about the movement of God’s mission in Southeast Asia.
The Vietnam Mission Initiative overview is Monday Aug. 9, from 8-9:30 p.m. EDT. Joining the conversation are Global Ministries’ general secretary, Roland Fernandes, North Carolina Annual Conference’s Bishop Hope Morgan Ward, Asia-Pacific Regional Office representative, the Rev. Paul Kong and Vietnam In Mission Together Coordinator, Jaye White. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear directly from local Vietnamese faith leaders and missionaries. Registration is required.
On the history of mission in Vietnam and possibilities for the future, Bishop Ward says: “The Methodist Mission Initiative in Vietnam invites your prayers, support and engagement. For 20 years, Methodists have been present in Vietnam proclaiming the gospel, offering ministries of mercy and justice and planting faith communities. The gathering will be an opportunity to connect, worship, share, grow and plan for next steps together with President Tuy and other faith leaders in Vietnam.”
The Laos Mission Initiative overview is Thursday Aug. 26, from 8-9:30 p.m. EDT. Joining the conversation are Global Ministries’ general secretary, Roland Fernandes, Texas Annual Conference’s Bishop Scott J. Jones, Asia-Pacific Regional Office representative, the Rev. Paul Kong, and Laos In Mission Together Coordinator, Joel Rabb. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear directly from local Laotian faith leaders and missionaries. Registration is required.
On the growth of faith communities in Laos, Bishop Jones says: “God is opening pathways for the gospel in Laos. In a culturally Buddhist country, offering people the good news of Jesus Christ and the love of God is an incredible privilege. The United Methodist Church is empowering women and various ethnic groups in significant ways, and it is critical that we continue supporting the preaching of a Wesleyan approach to our faith.”
Virtual mission trips to both Laos and Vietnam are being planned for late 2021. Information on these trips is forthcoming.
