A missionary from Zimbabwe serving in Namibia, Ernest Mudzengerere has dedicated his life to education and child development. His work includes a strong emphasis on child protection, inclusive learning, and psychosocial support. His mission is deeply rooted in supporting vulnerable and orphaned children, offering holistic care that nurtures not only their academic growth but also their emotional, social, and developmental well-being. For Ernest, creating safe and nurturing environments where children can heal, grow, and thrive is more than work – it is a calling.
The path has not been without challenges. One of the most profound has been walking alongside children who have endured trauma, abuse, and neglect. Ernest acknowledges the emotional weight of their stories, yet he sees in them a source of strength and resolve. “Walking with them requires patience, consistency, and emotional strength,” he reflects. “Though heavy at times, their resilience inspires me to remain present and supportive.”
Adapting to Namibia’s cultural and social context also tested his resilience. Limited resources, high expectations, and the delicate balance between professional responsibilities and emotional investment demanded creativity and perseverance. Yet, these challenges also shaped him into a more empathetic and resourceful servant leader.
The commissioning in 2026 was a deeply emotional, full-circle moment. Ernest had first been commissioned in Kenya as a Global Mission Fellow in 2024 to serve in Namibia, and now, two years later, he stood in the same place, recommissioned as a Global Missionary. “It was not just a ceremony,” he says, “it was a reaffirmation of my calling. Being commissioned again in Kenya, where my journey began, gave me a renewed sense of purpose and commitment.”

Looking ahead, Ernest is returning to Namibia – a place that has become close to his heart. His plans are not about starting anew but about deepening relationships, strengthening programs, and building on the foundation already laid. He envisions sustainable systems that promote education, mental health, and child protection, alongside community-based initiatives that foster healing, resilience, and inclusion.
What gives Ernest the greatest joy is knowing that his work is deeply personal.
Having grown up as an orphan in Zimbabwe, Ernest’s call to serve with children who have endured trauma “makes my service intentional, authentic, and compassionate,” he shares. For him, mission is not simply an assignment – it is a calling shaped by his own story. And as he returns to serve, he does so with a heart that understands, a passion that is personal, and a commitment to make a lasting difference.

About Global Missionaries
Global Missionaries are long-term United Methodist missionaries who serve outside of their home settings. Immersing themselves in local contexts, Global Missionaries listen deeply and discern prayerfully how best to participate in God’s mission in that time and place. Global Missionaries engage in mission “with” the community, not mission “to” or “for,” recognizing that God is already at work in the people and places they serve.
