The General Board of Global Ministries and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) join with Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr. and the Council of Bishops in ongoing prayer for Colombia following the deadly earthquake that impacted the country on August 10, 2026, causing the deaths of at least 294 people and affecting over 100,000 others.

“As United Methodists, our connection compels us to respond faithfully and urgently to the needs of our brothers and sisters in crisis around the world,” said General Secretary Roland Fernandes. “Global Ministries and UMCOR echo Bishop Saenz’s call to stand with Colombia through prayer, action, and generosity, reflecting the hope of Christ through the strength of community in the years to come.”

A recently awarded solidarity grant from UMCOR to the Colombian Methodist Church (CMC) will provide humanitarian assistance, including food and essential household items, to families in Cali who have been directly impacted. UMCOR remains in close communication with the CMC and other partners in the region and stands ready to offer additional relief and long-term support to Colombia.
