Imagine No Malaria, 2008

In 2008, United Methodists joined together to imagine a world where the devastation caused by malaria could come to an end. Thousands of volunteers, health workers and church members and leaders put their faith into action, raising funds for the distribution of mosquito nets, medication and education on malaria prevention. Together, The United Methodist Church raised $75 million dollars.

Global Ministries’ Imagine No Malaria (INM) program stewarded this work for the denomination, leading to the creation of indigenous health boards. Although INM was officially sunsetted in 2024, routine malaria prevention and treatment continues through our global health work.

Abundant Health for All, 2017

Abundant Health for All launched in 2017 and aimed to protect members of the global community from preventable causes of death and disease. Volunteers curated engaging health-related projects, fundraisers and events designed to bolster the mental, physical and spiritual health of all people.

Abundant Health for All set the goal of extending lifesaving health interventions to one million children by 2020. After reaching this goal, the work continued and ultimately, more than five million women and children were reached with care. Abundant Health for All continues today within U.S. annual conferences.

COVID-19 Response, 2020

From the beginning of the pandemic, Global Ministries and its partners came together in support of communities hard hit by COVID-19. We developed educational resources and supported the purchase of health supplies such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hospital equipment, respirators and more.

Agency staff also partnered in developing a “declaration on vaccine equity” and affirmed the call for global distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
