Sims Siamoonga is a Global Mission Fellow (International) with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. He is part of the 2021-2023 Global Mission Fellow cohort.

The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.

Sims is a member of Pilgrim Wesleyan (non-United Methodist) Church, Zambia City, Lusaka, Zambia. A graduate of Choma Secondary School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Zambia.

At age 12, when he first experienced healing in his life, Sims gave his life to Jesus Christ. For four years, he had had difficulty sleeping at night. “My deliverance came one day in 2006,” Sims said, “when the district overseer of Full Gospel Church of Zambia came to visit our local church.” After preaching, the overseer prayed for the sick and delivered people from evil spirits.

Witnessing this, Sims sought help from the guest preacher. “Surprisingly,” Sims said, “when I sat to be prayed for, the district overseer started telling me all my problems, and he prayed for me. I was delivered, and that same day, I gave my life to Jesus Christ. After some time, I received the Holy Spirit during prayer and fasting.”

Since then, Sims has been a strong believer in God. He is confident, he said, “that God sent his only beloved Son to be born on earth to teach about the kingdom of God, heal the sick and deliver the oppressed. Jesus died and was resurrected. Jesus further promised to send the helper (the Holy Spirit) to the believers and promised of his second coming and the new kingdom of God to come.”

Sims continued, “I believe God has given me a mission on earth.” Passionate about helping the needy, he is drawn especially to older adults, the widowed, orphans and vulnerable children.

Today, whenever he has the opportunity, Sims shares God’s word. “I believe God has given me a gift of teaching,” he said, and “by God’s grace, I also pray, heal the sick and deliver the oppressed.”
