Y. Kithminee Chamathka Kularatne is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. She was commissioned on July 28, 2019.
The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.
Kithminee was born in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. She is a member of the Church of Ascension, Kudagama, part of the Anglican Church of Ceylon. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Kithminee worked as a program manager for children, youth and women, National Christian Council of Sri Lanka.
Born into a Christian family, Kithminee was active in worship and Sunday school. Although she read the Bible and prayed daily, she said, “I always looked for love, peace and security.” Because she was so close to her family, Kithminee had a tough transition to university life. But a Christian friend led her to a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. “The more I experienced God’s love,” she added, “the more I started to love others. I got an opportunity to represent my country at the Global Christian University Students Conference.” For the first time in her life, she experienced God’s love through people of different cultures. She looked for ways to serve in mission, and someone mentioned Global Mission Fellows. “I believe that if God is calling me,” she said, “he is going to be faithful to his promises.”
