Hannah Newton is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service with the UMCM Suncost/Justice for Our Neighbors as a Legal Services Client Coordinator. She was commissioned in August 2018.

The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.

In the United States, GMF service continues the historical US-2 mission program for young adults; it operates through affiliates, such as annual conferences, districts or other institutional expressions of the church.

Hannah is from Hawesville, Kentucky, and is a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church in Lewisport, a congregation of the Kentucky Annual Conference. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Deaf studies from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. She has worked for a Methodist training and retreat center for four summers.

Raised in the church since age 4 and baptized at age 8, Hannah says she came to understand what a relationship with God meant while in high school. Annual church camp had a large influence on her faith development and helping her to grasp what it means to love others as Christ loves us. “At this point in my life” Hannah says, “I am constantly learning about God’s character – how God loves and how to love him more fully.”

She dates her call to mission from the summer of 2016.
